Five versions

Five rewrites appear here, each with its changed words marked.

How to rephrase a sentence well

A good rephrase changes the structure of a sentence, not just a word or two. The five versions above usually mix these moves:

  • Swap the order of clauses: “Because sales fell, we cut costs” ↔ “We cut costs after sales fell.”
  • Switch active and passive voice: “The board approved the plan” ↔ “The plan was approved by the board.”
  • Change the word form: “decide” → “make a decision”, “important” → “matters”.
  • Choose precise synonyms, but only where the meaning stays the same.
  • Split or merge: one long sentence becomes two short ones, or the other way round.

See each technique in action in How paraphrasing works. To rewrite more than one sentence at a time, use the paragraph rewriter.

Questions people ask

How do I rephrase a sentence?

Type or paste the sentence, choose a mode and press Rephrase. You get five versions with different structures. Changed words are marked so you can compare them with your original at a glance.

Why five versions instead of one?

The right rewording depends on where the sentence sits. Seeing several options side by side lets you pick the one that fits your paragraph, instead of accepting the first thing the tool produces.

Can I give it the surrounding text?

Yes. Open "Add context" and paste the sentences around it. The tool uses them only to understand the meaning and rewrites just your sentence.

What is a sentence changer good for?

Fixing a sentence that sounds clumsy, avoiding repeating the same phrasing twice in a text, making a line more formal or simpler, and practising paraphrasing by comparing structures.

Is there a limit?

One sentence of up to 800 characters per run. For whole paragraphs use the paragraph rewriter.
