Academic phrasing the Formal mode aims for

  • No contractions: “doesn’t” becomes “does not”.
  • Hedged claims where evidence is limited: “suggests” rather than “proves”.
  • Precise verbs instead of vague ones: “examines”, “argues”, “demonstrates” rather than “looks at”, “says”, “shows”.

Questions people ask

Will the essay rewriter keep my citations?

Yes. In essay mode the AI is told to keep every in-text citation, such as (Hobsbawm, 1962) or [3], exactly as written. Check them anyway before you submit.

Is using an essay rewriter cheating?

It depends on your school's rules. Many universities allow AI help with language and clarity but not with generating ideas or arguments, and some require you to declare any AI use. Read your course policy, and never use a rewriter to disguise someone else's work.

Does paraphrasing avoid plagiarism?

No. Plagiarism is about using someone else's ideas without credit, not only their exact words. A paraphrased idea still needs a citation. Rewriting your own draft is fine; rewording a source so it will not be recognised is not.

Which mode is best for essays?

Formal is the default here: it removes contractions and slang and keeps an academic register. Use Fluent to tidy grammar and flow without changing your voice much.
