How to paraphrase text with RewriteFast

  1. Paste your text into the Original box (up to 12,000 characters).

  3. Press Rewrite (or Ctrl/Cmd + Enter). The rewrite streams in sentence by sentence.

  5. Copy or export as .txt or .doc, or press Edit further to run the result through again.

Check the rewrite, don’t just trust it

AI paraphrasers are good at wording and bad at knowing when a fact matters. Before you use a rewrite, read it against the original: names, numbers, dates, quotes and technical terms should be unchanged. The two meters under the result help here. A high phrase overlap means long runs of your original survived; a very low one on a technical text is a signal to check that the meaning is still exact.

Want to understand what a good paraphrase actually changes? Our interactive guide to how paraphrasing works lets you apply the five classic techniques to a sentence one by one and watch the overlap drop.

Questions people ask

Is RewriteFast free?

Yes. Every tool on the site is free to use without an account. There is a fair-use limit per visitor so the service stays fast for everyone.

What is the difference between rewriting and paraphrasing?

In everyday use they mean the same thing: saying the same ideas in different words. Paraphrasing usually means staying close to the original meaning and length; rewriting can also change tone, length or structure. The five modes let you choose how far to go.

How long can my text be?

Up to 12,000 characters per run on this page, which is roughly 2,000 words. For longer documents, rewrite them section by section.

What do "words changed" and "phrase overlap" mean?

Words changed is the share of words in the rewrite that are not in the original at the same place. Phrase overlap is the share of three-word runs in the rewrite that also appear in the original. Both are calculated in your browser, not by the AI. A low overlap means the structure really changed, not just a few synonyms.

Can I keep some sentences as they are?

Yes. After a rewrite, every sentence has a keep button to restore your original wording and a button that asks for three new versions of just that sentence.

Is my text stored?

Your text is sent to the AI model only when you press Rewrite, and it is not stored on our servers. Your last ten results are saved only in your own browser, and you can clear them at any time.

Is it OK to paraphrase for school or work?

Paraphrasing is a normal writing skill, but it does not remove the need to credit the original source. If you paraphrase someone else's ideas, cite them. Many schools also have rules on using AI tools, so check yours first.

Which languages work?

The rewriter answers in the language you write in. It works best in English and other widely used languages such as Spanish, French, German, Portuguese and Italian.
